Generally I’m not a big fan of the term “human capital”. It seems to objectify the people in a given organisation, placing them in the same category as financial or other non-human resources.
I find that to be counter-productive to employee engagement and motivation.
That said, there is an interesting article I stumbled upon in an issue of Organizational Dynamics from last year. It’s all about leveraging human capital to develop competitive advantage.
If you have access to science direct (try your friendly corporate library), you should really take a look. It has a number of ideas that many organisations should (but don’t) follow, either within their human resources or knowledge management functions.
