I’m very interested in the theoretical side of both management and people. I find the interactions that occur in organisations absolutely amazing to observe.
Some time ago I posted an article on strategy vectors, which is a concept of Dr. Omer Livvarcin. I won’t explain it in detail again, but I will say it’s a great way to graphically display the strategic alignment within your organisation. Incidentally, I also have yet to use it in a client engagement.
What I liked about strategy vectors concept was it’s ability to visualise how each work unit was operating, compared to the intended strategy. What I’d love to see is a similar type of visualisation for communication. To be able to chart the flow of formal and informal communication would be priceless.
Armed with such a display, we could determine which organisational units communicate well, and which not so well. We could find and eliminate any “road blocks” in organisational communication. It would allow us to detect and manage “silos”, where people are reluctant to communicate outside their own area. The possibilities are endless.
